About this event

Description

Understanding demographic shifts is fundamental to understanding Colorado's economic future. After all, "jobs are people," and "houses are where those people go to sleep". In this presentation to the Denver Association of Business Economists, we will provide a comprehensive demographic update for the state. The session will cover standard demographic drivers—including births, deaths, and net migration—and explore the critical connections between population dynamics, labor force availability, and housing supply.

A special focus of this session will be a deep dive into our latest numbers, fresh from our annual summit earlier this month. We will unpack the recent trends that are actively shaping and altering our state forecasts, such as Colorado's slowing population growth, declining fertility rates, and the broader economic impacts of an aging demographic. Finally, we will discuss the key risks and variables currently affecting our long-term projections, including housing affordability, competition for labor, and changing domestic migration patterns. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of Colorado's demographic trajectory and what these shifting realities mean for our regional economy over the coming decade.
