About this event

Explore the future of Colorado's housing landscape at DABE's expert panel on Housing Needs Assessments. Learn more about these valuable tools used by governments across the state to better understand their local housing needs. Hear from experts at Root Policy Research and DRCOG as they cover: the core purpose and application of these assessments; the specific data and methodologies involved; and real-world insights from their work with Colorado communities. Following last year's passage of SB 24-174, which mandates these assessments for local governments, their prevalence and importance for Colorado's economic analysts and policymakers will only grow. This DABE event is your opportunity to discover how these studies are conducted and effectively utilized to analyze Colorado’s diverse housing markets.

Heidi Aggeler is a Managing Director and Co-Founder of Root Policy Research. Heidi started her research and consulting career as an economic analyst with the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. She has been managing housing research projects since 1999, and has overseen completion of more than 100 housing market studies and needs assessments. Heidi also specializes in fair housing assessments, and has conducted fair housing training and technical assistance nationwide. Heidi is a frequent speaker on housing policy and has been featured by the American Planning Association, Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the National Association for County Community and Economic Development.

Corey McGinnis is a Data Scientist at the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG). He contributed to the development of the housing needs estimation methodology for DRCOG’s Regional Housing Needs Assessment and has presented the assessment’s findings to mayors, city managers, and jurisdictional staff throughout the region. He and his team also update and maintain DRCOG’s small-area forecast. Prior to joining the staff at DRCOG, Corey worked as a Senior Analyst at Analysis Group, where he specialized in creating statistical models of residential mortgage defaults and provided analytical and research support to expert witnesses in economics and finance. Corey has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Math and Statistics from Macalester College.
